Shades Apart - Shades Apart

Experts agree, the earlier Shades Apart releases are their best. After the "Neon" post I have gotten a few requests for their debut album already, so I figured I just might add this one as well. Not much to say about this one that I haven't said in one form or another in the post below already. This one came out in 1988 on Wishingwell Records and is (not surprisingly) a bit harder, faster and generally rougher. But it is already very evident that these guys knew how to write catchy songs and how to play. There are already a lot of great melodies in the vain of early "Dag Nasty" or "Reason to Believe", and the singer Mark V. even reminds me a bit of Peter Cortner of Dag Nasty’s “Wig out at Denko’s” and “Field Day” fame. Anyway, this is good stuff.

Thanks!!! I saw this the other day in my basement and realized that i hadnt listened to it in...ten years? a long time either way.

Now I am rocking it.

Plus I fixed my old ipod so I can have one just filled with hardcore and metal.

Today is a good day.

Awesome. Simply awesome. I sold the vinyl of this years ago thinking I'd just grab the cd somewhere down the line. One of the bands that deserved to be huge. Great guys too.
Man, I remember screaming along to "On The Inside" eons ago.

Jeff, you clearly know more about them than me. I haven't even heard "Dude danger", but hope that "proven hollow" might come through with a rip for this if he finds the time (see comments for the "Neon" post). Is there a chance that you have the demo, buried somewhere in your basement?

nope... i'm pretty sure everything's all gone. i saved some but that wasn't one of 'em. too bad.

sorry...

Do any of you have unit pride's then & now. I have can't kill a dream, but I believe Then & Now is their compilation. Also, I cannot seem to find Cirle Storm's album. Can anyone help with that?

Jon - No, sorry, can't help with that, although I am pretty sure I have see at least some Unit Pride stuff on blogs somewhere (I'll keep an eye out...)

Is this link working? It doesn't even come up for me. Your link for Neon worked fine, but this one doesn't even show a link.

luciferyellow said...

I fixed the link. Thanks for pointing that out. Somehow Blogger is eating my formatting and whenever I go back to a post something gets messed up, in this case apparently the link. Anyway, try it now.

working now, thanks!

I love this record and was so psyched to see it and the Dude Danger EP posted here. But the link won't work! Any chance you'll be re-posting it sometime? Thanks, and I love the blog!

Hey, Jamie, I just tried both of those links (for thge self-titled LP and the Dude danger EP), both seem to be working fine. Just try again. If it is still not working, send me some contact info and I'll try to figure out some other way. Cheers!

Okay, got it to work. Thanks for checking up--the link came up as "invalid" when I'd first tried it. Though I got a bonus track ("Brutality" by Maximum Pentalty) along with the s/t album!

luciferyellow said...

Ha,Ha. Well that "bonus" track clearly doesn't belong there - even though that's a good record, too. I guess I messed up when I put the files in a folder for zipping.

Jamie said...

Well, thanks again for the Shades Apart AND the bonus, as well as Beyond, Sideshow and some other stuff. Keep it coming--we obviously have the same taste in music.

Great Album and Great blog. I just downloaded Seeing Things after all these years. SAve It has got to be their best... I think they even still play from time to time.
